Rated 5 out of 5 by circirman Best HDTV Ever. Hands Down
Don't let the price tag fool you this Sony 4K HDTV is without a doubt the best HDTV on the market as of Summer 2013. I have owned multiple HDTV's now and this set absolutely wowed me. Yes the price was difficult to swallow but it was worth it. With the purchase of the TV I received 3 4K Blu-Rays, 1 year subscription for Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Sony Music Unlimited. That is roughly $282 in savings for you. Sadly I cannot describe the picture quality to you as it is something you truly must see for yourself. If there is a local Sony Store or Best Buy that has this TV on display then I encourage you to demo it right away! In terms of upscaling all of my content to 4K it does an amazing job. My PS3 games, Blu-Rays, even my cable has never looked nor sounded so good. The main problem I have with my purchase is not the TV itself but the lack of 4K content. Although I was offered the 4K media player all I wanted was just a few 4K sample pictures or videos pre-loaded on the TV and not on a separate purchase. Overall I am very, very pleased. Great job Sony!

Rated 5 out of 5 by PMMJR Amazing picture, resolution and colors
I researched this television extensively before purchasing and having purchased the 55' XBR a year earlier felt the picture quality would be outstanding and it is. The set-up was fairly straight forward and the speakers need some tweaking to get the best overall sound so you will need to play around with the equalizer but I have to say the clarity and especially color palette is fantastic. We have watched a wide range of programs including sports with a fast pace and the smoothness of the picture remains intact throughout. This television is a early adopter of 4K and I am excited to see more programming through this beautiful Sony.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sxytvw The difference in picture detail is TELLING!!
I read all the reviews stating the silliness of buying 4K due to the supposed diminishing returns that are evident the further away one sits from the television. At first, 24-hours after receiving the television, I was leaning in that direction. The discerning eye could pick-up differences in color and sharpness, but certainly nothing to write home about. I then watched a 4K Mastered Blu-Ray, again, there were subtle differences for the better, but nothing very impressive. Up until that point I didn't change my picture mode and was growing weary of the dimness of the picture created by the "standard" setting - so I changed it to "VIVID". I was watching Cliffhanger on DIRECTV, moments after the 4K Master Blu-Ray and post-picture mode change, the picture absolutely POPPED out.
The difference between my year old HX-929, which has quite a phenomenal HD picture, and this 4K is not subtle and one needn't sit inches away, as some state, to enjoy - it's quite breath-taking 12 feet away.
I'm watching commercials on DIRECTV as I type these words and the difference between HDTV and 4K is telling.
And, it's important to note that I 've been greatly impressed with non-native 4K content. One can only imagine what native 4K will look like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by donaldm823 New XBR-55X900A is exceptional
Just bought a new XBR-55X900A and love it.
Despite numerous posts, the screen picture is much brighter/vibrant and sharper with better color, yet smooth pixel-less for regular network broadcasts. Blu-ray disk movies are improved with sharpness, better color, and a picture that "grabs you", so I do not agree with some posts that the picture is the same as the 1080p TVs. The up scaling is noticeable. Also YouTube is now offering 4K videos so you can see what new source material will look like. Not sure what the new Blu-ray disks with 4K mastering will do for this new 4K TV. Sony provides via mail 3 of these disks when buying the new 4K TVs The biggest improvement for me was the exceptional sound quality and passive 3D. The difference between my 2 year old NX810 and this X900A is remarkable
My sound is better than I was getting using a Boston Acoustics sound bar (w/subwoofer) with my old TV. The sound is very close to my Bose system. Very happy with the new speakers. And yes my 55inch takes up by 60" entertainment center space or I would have purchased the 65" TV. But I am happy with the new speakers and the fact they are attached makes for a good looking TV. My wife is very happy as the new TV looks great with her furniture instead of a sound bar popping out of a wall or corner. These new speakers produce an exceptional sound better than any Sony TV I have ever had including those that had front mounted speakers. There are 6 speakers with a total 65watts
The 3D is exceptional, as good as a movie theater with great 3D depth and a brighter picture (my 2 complaints with the NX810). Much better depth and much sharper than my previous Sony TV (NX810). Also the simulated 3D is also good. And the passive 3D is easy on your eyes. Just watched Avatar 3D and my eyes are not tired as they would be with an active 3D. 3D is now worth watching and the glasses are light on your ears as they are only a thin plastic (no batteries)
Price is steep but happy with the purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by jirkad Truly Amazing Set
This TV has the most beautiful, eye catching design.
While 4K content is limited now (I make my own 4K home movies), the set exhibits amazing picture clarity, color and tone even on regular HDTV, PS4 gaming or digital content "thrown" to it from a SONY Android mobile device.
It also has the best sound I've ever heard from TV speakers; so pleasing, actually, that I now frequently bypass my receiver 5.1 surround and just use the TV speakers, especially for cable TV.
One neat thing is the supplied secondary remote - since my TV sits on a somewhat high cabinet and when I use the regular remote from my couch, the front of the TV stand sometimes obstructs the TV infra red receiver - the secondary remote doesn't work on infrared, it doesn't have to be pointed towards the TV and I find that VERY convenient.
This is a 100% SONY device household and I very much enjoy how all SONY products interact, be it automatic Scene Select, wireless Android media Throw, NFC.
This TV has it all, perhaps except the new codec for 4K streaming and the main remote feeling cheap, at least compared to previous SONY TVs, remotes from a couple years ago felt more solid.
It does help sitting closer to marvel at the picture detail in 4K and it is also not reasonable to expect some super sharp picture from movies in general, as those are often presented in somewhat less sharp image, washed out, etc. Underwater shots of coral reefs and similar stuff look absolutely breathtaking in 4K.
At $2,700, this is a great deal - gosh, I paid $3,000 for a weak Samsung LCD TV just 6 years ago...

Rated 5 out of 5 by louierocks This TV ROCKS!!!!!!!!
Let me start off by saying that I am a XBR fan!!!! I sold my sony XBR 929 for this unit. The 3D imaging is amazing and better than the 929 and uses passive 3D glasses. The colors are more vibrant than ever before.......after minor tweaking.
Remember to break in your TV before adjusting your colors and contrast....
