I wanted to love this set. But I got a defective unit. It suffered from severe back lighting issues. I tried to go through Sony's customer service. That was a nightmare. 3 hours and several disconnects. I finally has to drive 50 miles to return the set to the Sony sore in Glendale Ca. They were very nice and agreed with me on the defects. They offered me another set, but I decided to take a rest and enjoy the Sony set I already own. Here is a picture of the set I got. It might be awhile before I go through this nightmare again. I'm a loyal Sony fan. Every TV, computer, stereo, camera etc in my home is Sony. Please improve your customer experience. Thanks Jeff from Rancho Cucamonga Ca.

First off, Im a Sony customer have been since Sony started to make products. I would not go buy another brand no matter what the features or the latest craze might be. I purchased the 55 inch X850B 4K Ultra about a month ago. I have been looking at them for the past two years trying to figure out if the 4K was what it was cracked up to be and if the up scaling really works. Well, let me tell you first hand it does and once you see this picture it's unbelievable. I have Verizon Fios as my provider and every channel is super. The 4K Netflix are better than going to your local movie theater. True you have to pay a few bucks more for the 4K Netflix but it's worth it. So if your sitting on the fence about the 4K purchase fear no longer it works. It's the real deal. Sales guy told me it was a much better picture than HD and it is. Clearer, sharper crisper. No question about it. Features are easy to figure out, apps are great much more than you will ever use.

Impressive visual experience as expected of Sony. Easy set up and linking with Sony AV receiver for enhanced audio.
Opera web browser is a huge let down which ruins Sony's reputation. Opera is very clunky, not user friendly, frequently unresponsive to the remote, overly slow with frequent freezing, limited to only 3 tabs, incompatible with some websites and crashing constantly (such as Bloomberg TV). Bloomberg TV has replied to my emails but still have to hear back from Sony. This is a web connected smart TV thus issues like these need to be fixed and it would be helpful to have a native app.
Also was looking forward to try wifi mirroring with Apple products for this model since previous ones specifically were labeled NFC and AV receiver is capable of Airplay (audio only) but realized this was still not possible. Apple TV is an option but counterintuitive and redundant.
Lastly, there is no way to organize USB flash drive files on the Media Server.
If you want a 4K TV and not really use the other features, this is for you.

Great Great Great Great.
The 3D experience is pretty sick-- Like better than the movie theaters good.
Image is great.
Simulated 3D for non-3D signal is pretty great too.
The Pandora app is one of my favorites. It is great for playing music while cleaning the house, studying or throwing a party.
The Amazon app is pretty great too.
I dislike that the IR detector for the TV is inferior to the screen. I have a Sony Sound Bar that blocks the IR detector, so I had to sit the TV on a raised platform to allow the remote to have direct line of sight to the IR detector.
I was confused by the labels for the HDMI inputs at first, not a very detailed paper manual.
Amazon instant video does not allow for 3D simulation.
Turning on the TV does not always active the Sony Sound bar via the HDMI ARC, only about 80% of the time.
The Sony Dynamic Sound- or the ability to reduce/narrow the range of explosions and speech is not so great. This is suppose to allow you to hear regular level speech in the video while not having the explosions/crashes or other "loud" sounds blare out your apartment neighbors.

This TV exceeded my expectations was going to go with the 65 inch, but decided that the 55 inch would be more than big enough for the wall that I have in my room. Its great to just turn off the lights pop in a movie and feel as if I'm actually in the movie theater. The television itself is very light as well as sleek. I have it on a mount that can withstand a 150lbs television to make sure that it can hold the 55lbs that this TV is.
I do recommend for any of the 4K televisions is to get an AudioQuest cable from best buy will make your television experience that much better. Got one for $100 and I am very pleased with how the picture looks.
Also the Netflix streaming on this television for 4K is great.
Although I have only had this TV for a little over 2 months I can say that I am throughly pleased with what SONY has done to make my television experience that much better.

I bought this new 4 K Sony XBR, to replace what was then a top of the line 2001 TV.. A -XBR 36 " Wega...I thought it played great, .I did not really see just how bad my old TV was, until I plugged in this new XBR 4K XBR...Its like being in the same room, the people look so life like..the colors are so bright, clear, and you see so many little things that you never notice in the back gounds of other TV's..I mean minute little things so tiny...Right down to the threads of the buttons on the persons closes they are wearing..Thats how sharp the picture is...I could say a lot more..but don't just take my word for it...just buy one, you will not be disappointed one bit...and I have not even said anything about all the TV extras,,The WiFi, and that good stuff that goes with that...All the HDMI hook up's, and streaming from PC's...the list goes on and on....

The TV delivers a nice* picture and has a great menu of options and extras. Thin bezel; looks great. Sound is adequate.
The software that runs the UI needs a revision, though:
Negatives about the software:
- Navigating is a pain - inconsistent menus and commands; third-party apps don't follow convention
- Remote lacks an "EXIT" button, bringing you back to the main TV signal (and the third-party apps all respond differently/have different menus). The "RETURN" button doesn't serve as an "EXIT" button.
- When starting up with the input on a source that's not delivering signal (e.g. a DVD player that's turned off), for some reason the TV cycles for 20 seconds searching for signal, and starting up. Frustrating.
- Web browser is unusable
On the *plus* side:
- Tons of menu and customization options available
- You can customize "sticky" settings so it'll remember your preferences for different inputs (i.e. TiVo settings are different from Blu-Ray settings).
- Third-party apps are plentiful
*It's no plasma, that's for sure, even in 4K. How viewers could ever sacrifice plasma for LED pictures, I'll never know. I kept my plasma TV.

I am a Sony person from way back when DVD and Sony television products are bought. I have never given another TV manufacturer reason to be bought. Why change when there is nothing wrong? Hands down, the best engineered and feature laden TV on the market. Past experience shows that Sony has not let technology overtake quality products. In the technology arena, you get what you pay for.
I just upgraded from a 2001 Sony XBR 40" picture tube HD television. In HD, the picture was only 32" diagonal. The picture tube was 26" deep, taking up valuable wall space. Bought the X850B 4K Ultra HD TV as the replacement and to gain more room space. It's now hanging on the wall and I could not be happier. Shows like a 'moving 3D color movie picture'. Sony has been working on 4K for 7 years now in their professional lines. The industry is just now catching up (4K) to Sony. It shows with this product.
