Rated 3 out of 5 by JPDX 5 stars for Sony. Zero for Opera browser
Impressive visual experience as expected of Sony. Easy set up and linking with Sony AV receiver for enhanced audio.
Opera web browser is a huge let down which ruins Sony's reputation. Opera is very clunky, not user friendly, frequently unresponsive to the remote, overly slow with frequent freezing, limited to only 3 tabs, incompatible with some websites and crashing constantly (such as Bloomberg TV). Bloomberg TV has replied to my emails but still have to hear back from Sony. This is a web connected smart TV thus issues like these need to be fixed and it would be helpful to have a native app.
Also was looking forward to try wifi mirroring with Apple products for this model since previous ones specifically were labeled NFC and AV receiver is capable of Airplay (audio only) but realized this was still not possible. Apple TV is an option but counterintuitive and redundant.
Lastly, there is no way to organize USB flash drive files on the Media Server.
If you want a 4K TV and not really use the other features, this is for you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NormW Thanks to Best Buy
Best Buy replaced my 1st XBR55X850A because it died the 2nd day of use. The XBR55X850A again was replaced by Best Buy because it did not perform as advertised; replaced by XBR55X850B. Best Buy lives up to their reputation of having happy customers. This 3rd TV after 2 months and 2 days needed service because of a malfunction: 8 blinking Indicator lights and set died. Sony wanted me to send in the TV for repair: you got to be kidding. How do you box up a TV? I would have to hire a person to do it for me. I called Best Buy and the next day they were here at my home, diagnosed the problem, ordered the part and 3 days later Geek Squad was here to replace a board and had my set up and running. Will I have more problems? I hope not. My opinion of Sony has been diminished. To be sure I still like Sony. My other Sony products have performed will.

Color is wonderful , sound is better then most. The one thing that should be upgraded is frame dimming too the much better local dimming. Samsung and LG both offer less expensive 4K sets with local dimming.

Rated 1 out of 5 by i165964 4k TV+ Digital Optical Audio + Netflix - FAILED
I bought this TV from Best Buy - exchanged it in 2 days & returned in 10 days. In between had geek squad at my place 3 times & called to sony support. No luck :(
The only source of 4k content on the TV for now is Netflix (4-5 movies) limited content. Else you need to buy a very slow player FMPX10 from Sony (DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THAT PLS).
If you hook up this TV to your sounds system with an optical audio cable + run netflix, expect to hear loud distortion every time you pause or forward digital content. That sounds can damage your sounds system. BE WARNED.
Turns out the applications on this great TV are simply not fully tested. For now - not a good buy.
In the future when they clean things up, may be a good deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by stairstars Went to buy the Sammy...but
The Sammy really looked good in their 4K model and we were just about to write it up, when I glanced and saw the SONY display. Oh, well, already here. My 9 year old SONY LCOS was on the blink after 4 years good service, which was a feat, as it was the ones that had the green glob and lots of problems and had two gut replacements to get us this far. I was not warm to SONY, but the 950B blew us away with an image no one else has - but also a price tag to match. We then spent lots of time with the 850B, had them hook it up to a Blu Ray player and let us toy with it. I was pleased with the ability to turn off the 4K upscaler, as I saw it could do too much for some inputs, including a Blu Ray disc. The Sammy does not have that feature. I have a lot of old films and thought best to be able to control that task. After getting it home, and seeing what it does to broadcast 1080 we were amazed. Football game images put you right there; best I have ever seen and our old SONY was pretty good too - but this is better. Using the 4K feeds from YOUTUBE are nothing short of awe inspiring, especially the nature and the travel videos. Whoever said (FORBES?) that the human eye cannot tell the difference between 1080 and 4K must need glasses! I await new 4K content, like everyone else, but while waiting I am seeing a picture and COLORS that are beyond belief. Also, got the SONY HT-X1 sound bar and am also quite pleased with it. We live in a condo and have a large surround sound system that is now in storage. This does great for something with so few speakers, and it does have a sub that will shake a bit. Got everything hooked to it and only one HDMI out to the TV.

Excellent picture quality. Have only NETFLIX for 4K content, 4K is awesome. The only downside is Sony does not offer to rent / buy to watch 4K content from their own library. I do not want to spend another $600 for a 4K streaming box again. Sony should share their 4K content at least from their products. When NETFLIX can stream 4K Sony should also be able to.

Bought the 65" XBR-X850B TV at the Sony Store on Friday August 29. Saved $1000 on the purchase as part of the Labour Day promotional offer. Easy to setup. Great pictures. And really like compact build which is great for a small living room.
Unfortunately found a cluster of dead pixels in the bottom left corner of the screen. Didn't want to take the risk of keeping TV and getting more dead pixels over time.
Returned it to the store to exchange it for a 55" XBR-X850B TV. Asked the staff at the store which were very helpful to open to the box in order to check and make sure that this one didn't have dead pixels as well. What a shock - the screen on the freshly opened 55" had a large crack on the bottom left as well. Looked like it was poorly handled at the time it was packaged considering the packaging was in good shape and the TV was still in its plastic wrapping. Good thing I asked the staff to open the box. Would have been an enormous hassle to have to return this one as well. And those TVs are not light to carry. Glad that the Sony Store refunded me the full amount for the 65".
No worries, Sony. You still make good TVs. You just have to take a look at QC/QA to make sure that customers to encounter these kinds of situation.
I am keeping my 40" XBR4 bought in Xmas 2007, in the meantime. And will wait for the next promotional offer to buy the 55" again. And this time, again, I will the staff at the Sony store to open the box to check to make sure everything is ok with the TV before taking it home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BananaMan Totally satisfied.
Picture became washed out in my old 46 inch LCD Sony flat screen. After seeing how cheap the new 48 inch Sony LEDs are at Best Buy, I decided to replace rather than repair. But the new 48 inch Sony didn't fit my wall bracket. So I returned it and upgraded to the 55 inch Ultra HD Sony. Wow! Expensive, but I think worth it. Incredible picture. Fits my wall bracket. Great for Skype. Weighs about the same as my old 46 inch and uses less electricity. The connections are easy to access from the side, even after the TV is mounted on the wall.
