I have been wanting a Sony TV for a VERY long time, I can't believe I finally purchased this model. Fairly easy setup. Excellent picture! Wonderful 3D quality! I had to purchase a 3rd pair of 3D glasses and the TDG-BT500A was very easy to pair.
Great refresh rate. Motionflow works great on movies (both Blu-Ray and DVD) and my games. I got to get use to it on 3D, though. My brain can't seem to process all the information of smooth flowing 3D cinema. LOL!
Trying the Playstation Now is great! It was even easy to pair my Dualshock 3 controller. Downsides are that it stays on when I stop playing Playstation Now and that I have to pair it to my PS3 when I need it for the console.
It is pretty cool that I can control my PS3 XMB using the TV remote. Downside of that is you need to make sure the TV can sense the remote so it can send the signal via HDMI. It is understandable, however.
Wonderful idea that the stand can convert to a wall mount with included hardware setup.
Coming from a 42" other brand, I am so grateful I purchased this TV.

I was a life long Sony customer until 32 days after the I purchased my 3-D Sony tv, Sony sound bar and wireless bass, Sony 3-D Blue-ray DVD player and several 3-D movies. The tv broke, and Sony's customer service hasn't done much of anything to help ease my mind about the whole situation. As of now (1 Nov 14), I have been without a tv for about two (2) WEEKS. I still don't know if I will get a replacement tv or what?

Rated 5 out of 5 by JOEYD BEST TV WE EVER HAD!
Had this for more than a month, more than enough time to properly tweak the settings (had experience with test patterns before) and can honestly say this set is a joy to watch. A superb picture in every way.
I have a large collection of movies recorded onto DVD-R from stations like TCM-HD, HBO, etc. and was afraid the much bigger screen would bring out more of the limitations of these home made discs compared to my KD34XBR960 which recently needed to be replaced. So happy to say that isn't the case at all! Of course, not the replication of the original HD source but this set does wonders with an up-converted signal and an overall 7.5-8 comparison which is more than one could ask for.
And though we did not purchase it for 3D, that is a a bonus. The simulated 3D is really surprising in it's effectiveness and we watch true HD on our on demand services that comes free with premium channel subscriptions. So we're now hooked on 3D as an extra feature to enjoy.

I love this TV. Movies and PS3 games are all amazing on it. We use an HD antenna for local channels instead of cable and not only is the picture amazing, the onscreen guide and even better the Side View App have transformed our TV viewing experience.
We also bought the TV for it's smart features, primarily netflix and amazon prime, all of which work fine but the navigation response is slow, and it takes a few minutes for the TV to load apps right after it's turned on.
I also love the fact the the TV includes all of the hardware for wall mounting which we are going to do in the near future.
Can't comment on the audio quality since we use a home theater receiver.
The 3D is far from great unfortunately but still watchable. Off angle viewing is watchable but pretty saturated and lacking contrast. We have to physically rotate the TV 45 degrees when guests sit on our side couch. Wish Sony would at least offer the option to buy a swivel stand like Samsung (my old Hitach plasma has a power swivel base which is still the best).

I'm a long time Sony TV owner. I bought my first one in the early 70s. I bought this 50" to replace my previous 40" Sony that died a few months ago. The 40" was only 5 years old and I was really soured by the experience.
After doing significant internet research I was convinced I was going to buy a Samsung. However, once I went to see the Samsung, the sales person asked me if I had looked at the Sony -- it was his personal favorite. I told him my tale of woe with my 40" and he suggested I speak to someone at Sony. I did and I was offered a 15% discount on a new Sony if purchased directly from them.
I ended up purchasing this 50" only in part because of the price. This W800B is a beautiful TV to look at, even when it isn't on! Sony cleverly rounded the vertical sides of the TV so they seem to disappear, and the TV stand is about as classy as they come. But most importantly, the picture is great. I am not a gamer, but I watch a lot of sports and this TV excels when it comes to showing motion.
So stop researching and buy this TV -- I think you'll love it too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jrow1 Good TV; poor information
The picture quality of our new tV is great, but we have had this TV since May and my exasperation with sound issues finally led me to do a live chat (which didn't solve the problem but at least led me to the section of the I Manuel which helped me solve my problem). SONY needs to create a much more user friendly manuel. I would never find the audio info (the word is not referenced in the hard copy manuel) without the direction of the online chat. I knew that our 10 year old Sony had audio options, and I couldn't believe that this TV did not. For over 40 users, you need to spend a bit more on paper and regardless, Sony needs to at least reference WHERE a person can control the audio settings. The problem for us was the factory set surround sound (which tended to drown out the dialogue on most programs). I am now happy with my TV, but that was after questioning the audio for three months.

This TV has a beautiful STANDARD picture when sitting directly facing the screen. The colors become more muted when viewing it from an angle so its best suited to small groups that can crowd in front.
The 3D quality is absolutely abysmal. The picture is filled with crosstalk. Close-up images near the edges of the frame are blurry, distorted and it's almost impossible to get your eyes to focus on them. I am shocked that a manufacturer with Sony's history and brand recognition would market a 3D TV with such poor image quality.
This is a "smart" TV and connecting it to the internet was easy. The network setup practically runs itself. Sony gives you access to a wide range of providers, including Amazon Prime, Netflix and MLB-TV. The smart TV menus are simple and easy to navigate.
For some unfathomable reason, Sony chose to use a non-VESA mounting system. This means that you're out of luck if you want to use an articulating, adjustable wall mount. You're stuck with the Sony mount which only lets you put it flat against the wall or on a tabletop.
All in all, this TV has it's good points but if you're looking for a 3D TV you'd best look elsewhere.

Everything about the TV is just as expected, the colors are true, the sound is good, the design is probably the best among its peers, the smart features are good, but not great, it is perfect for our family room where we watch most of our kids shows, such as cartoons in Netflix which is a cinch to start due to the remote Netflix button. So here are the cons: the mount design is less than stellar since it only attached to wall in one position ( the wall mount is included, you just need the wall anchors) and if you want, for example, a multi-positional wall mount I hear you need an adapter since this one does not have the universal mounting hole positions in the back (only two as opposed to four), but overall the TV is great, it met all my expectations minus the mounting options. The price was good, but since it was a bit more than all competitors I would have expected the mounting options to be at least the same if not better.
