by bestnuggz great buy
i have had a sony 40' bravia from 3 years ago. this one is a far jump better than my old one. the colors are vibrant and the picture clarity is very sharp. the cine-motion is pretty good all though i have seen better from more expensive tvs. overall i would say this is the best tv for the price. then again i am very sony bias.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Koosha Perfect until I turned it on...
I received this TV a week after I ordered it and I was probably the happiest person alive. Packaging was pretty good, the box and TV were very light. I spent well over $600 for this TV so I can have the best experience. When I turned it on it was working perfectly. The picture quality and sound were AMAZING, but the remote could use some upgrading. I was checking out Netflix when I suddenly noticed a black line on the top of the screen. I ignored it cause I thought it was part of Netflix but then I noticed it again when I was playing some games. I called customer support the next day and they said that it's quite normal to have a couple of dead pixels, even though it was probably 10-20 dead pixels. I asked if I could replace it since I had the 5 year warranty, but all they did was come up with some reasons and try to sugar-coat it. If it weren't for the dead pixels then I would recommend this to my friends and rate this a 5/5. But for now, I'm greatly disappointed.

There are a few things about the TV that are really only able to be noticed & either annoyed by or not once you've got it all hooked up.
First- the green light. There is a green light that is ALWAYS on on the bottom & I find it incredibly distracting. I really liked the slim sleekness of the way this TV looked before I bought it, & the green light constantly on when TV is on kinda distracts that for me.
The apps are very slow to load.
Also - the VESA being 300 x 200 made it nearly impossible for me to find a wall mount extending bracket, unless I wanted to buy an expensive one exclusively on the Sony website. That bothered me.
I wound up getting one that was close & drilling my own holes to make it work. (not in the TV, but into the bracket).
The iManual is super handy & definitely an asset.
Overall, Sony can never go wrong in my opinion, but a few things could have been better payed attention to. Visually, it is perfect.

Spent about six months looking for a gaming televison with multiple HDMI ports. Almost picked up a Samsung and then this model came up on preorder. Turned out to be a great choice. Very pleased with the overall picture quality, and it is fast enough to support even the twitchiest games. Both current generation systems look spectacular - and no issues with the last generation ones. Setup was easy, and it is light enough that I was able to install it alone. Firmware updates aren't really annoying - and there is an option to delay them until it is in standby mode.
Only real gripe is that one of the HDMI ports is on the side, and there is no component audio output. Had to put a splitter on the headphone jack to support my older wireless headphones - which means there isn't room to fit the fourth HDMI cable. Managed to jury rig something - but if you aren't somewhat technical, you may need to buy new wireless headphones to go with it.

After looking at electronic stores, I knew I was looking for a Television around 40" for my bedroom. I didn't want it to be the focal point, but I also didn't want to strain my eyes watching movies or shows. One attendant in Best Buy told me that Sony and Samsung are the two premier television producers, when it comes to innovation with apps that are compatible and similar to those found and loved on our smart phones. I already own several samsung televisions, but was really captivated by the picture quality and resolution of the Sony televisions in the store. After asking around more and researching online, I discovered that Sony seems to be considered the top of the food chain in these waters. I decided to order the model online and it was shipped faster than expected. Once unwrapping, the setup was simple and the Television is spectacular. Great quality picture and the apps and remote through my phone are the best I have seen to date. The size of the television is also exactly what I was looking for. Not too big and not too small. Sony has my business from now on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by hawk51 nice upgrade
Upgraded from a 32" Sony, and was pleased to discover the 40 is only
five inches wider than the old set, which had a three-inch wide frame
around the screen. The picture quality is much better also (480p to 1080), which matches up well with both our Xfinity cable and our Sony Blu-ray.
The new set is also noticeably lighter than the old 32, which made placement for one person a snap.
A couple small criticisms are in order, to explain why I didn't give the
set five stars. The narrow black border of the screen is of such a high
gloss that it reflects into the viewer's eyes during daytime viewing; a
flat black would have been a better choice. Also, the dc power plug from the set's transformer has no positive locking connection. Upon initial setup, I got no response upon hitting the power button; a check of connections corrected this. But while stringing speaker wires behind
our entertainment center, one brushed the power cable, and the set went off. I now have the power cord taped to the back of the set.
Overall, we are delighted with the new television, which was priced the same as the four-year-old Sony it replaced. Hopefully Sony will change the power plug to one with a positive retention in the next version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by burningisis Excellent TV
I purchased this TV because a previously purchased LG television did not function as my husband wanted it to. The LG's smart features werent so smart, the sound was terrible and tinny and the picture was grainy.
So we picked up the Sony which was only a few dollars more than the LG and are thrilled with the purchase. Sound I would rate 3-4 stars becuase you do have to turn up the volume fairly loud to be able to hear it at an acceptable volume without a sound bar or surround sound system. But the picture is beautiful, the base is FAR sturdier than the LG's. The smart features are amazing and it has the playstation now on it. I have yet to play with this but I havent played on a playstation since the PS2 was popular so this is a nice extra treat.
All I can say is "buy this TV now. You wont be disappointed"
